The Life You Ask For
It Can Happen
Finding old content, pictures, and videos of yourself can be a wonderful way to see the proof of your hard work. While searching for some old photos of my kids, I found this video. Please take the time to watch it before continuing to read. It is about 3 minutes, and I promise it’s worth it.
This video was created for a class at Kent State University. It is one of those “Introduce Yourself” videos for my online class. It was created in 2018, and I remember doing many of these, but this one is one of the few where I shared why I wanted to work in librarianship. As I listen to my words and my heart, I am thankful. This is the life I asked for. This field of work is often misunderstood and under-supported. It borders so many community necessities. Becoming a librarian has been impactful and given my life another layer of passion. I am also thankful to God for allowing me to make it through this major life shift and for guiding me to embrace my creative side. Becoming a published author was just one of several dreams that I thought would never come true. But look at me now. WOW!
Backstory (Mini Version)
I went to college directly out of high school but dropped out in year three. It would be another 15 years before I seriously considered returning to higher education. College was different as a Wife, Mom, and full-time Information Technology professional. Everything was online, all the other students were young, and everyone thought I was crazy for starting a second career. My youngest was just under 2 years old, and my oldest was just starting his primary schooling. I remember the virtual counselor recommending I start slow and take 1 class. HA! She didn’t know me, but I don’t move slow on anything I do, and after the vivid dream and visualization of my new goals to become a librarian, I acknowledged her recommendations and promptly signed up for 4 classes (12 credits). I took this pace from 2016 to 2018 and completed my bachelor’s degree. Determined to be a librarian, I immediately moved forward to my Master’s degree program. Side note, it is a regular standard to have a master’s degree to be a public, collegiate, or private librarian. During this time, I published my 1st and 3rd novels, purchased my first home, and grew my literary and community village.
The life I prayed for and expressly dreamed about is where I am now. Honestly, I didn’t think it was going to happen this way, but I am so glad it did. I would not take this back for anything. I am thankful for new visions and goals. I still have work to do on this planet, so I will continually push towards personal achievements and writing successes.
Seeing this video reminds me that it can and will happen.

I’m inspired. It goes to show that you can have what you want. Librarianship sounds like a fulfilling career choice.
I totally is 🙂
